4/13/2010 8:00 AM EST - We're making more security changes and you may see an error when trying to access your control panel or webmail, indicating that the certificate is not secure.  We are making some changes, and that will change shortly.  You can access your control panel securely by going to: https://host.greenearthhost.com:2083 - Logging in with your username and password.

4/10/2010 10:30 AM EST - Upgrades and updates have been completed.

4/10/2010 5:00 AM EST - We are making important security and email upgrades.  You may notice some slowness with access temporarily, and you may see a prompt to 'download a file'.  That is a result of a security change, and we are in the process of   correcting.

Also, you will find new mail/spam options in your control panel.  Take some time to configure the settings as you would like, to help control spam with MailScanner.

4/3/2010 2:00 PM EST -  As the nameservers are being updated, you may see a temporary delay in reaching your domain name due to previous DNS being cached by your browser or your computer.  Try deleting temporary internet files in your browser.  If that doesn't restore your view, try deleting DNS cached information from your computer:

On your computer, go to the Start button/Run/ type CMD in the screen and enter, then at the prompt, type:
ipconfig /flushdns  (return)
ipconfig /release all (return)
ipconfig /renew (return)
exit

3/30/2010 12:30 PM EST - Some clients reporting that they can't 'see' the changes they make to their website. Please see FTP information in summary below.  Make sure you are not using your OLD IP to login FTP/upload your files!  That will go to the old server and you won't see the changes on the new servers!

3/30/2010 10:00 AM EST -  We have assisted with all reported issues.  We are still experiencing some delay with loading for those using SiteZen (the site builder in the control panel).  All other reported issues have been resolved.

3/27/2010 10:00 AM EST - We're working on some configurations for the link to you client billing area from your cpanel.  You may not be able to access directly from the control panel, but you can reach it here: http://khimaira.com/clients Your username will be the email address for your account and the password will be your control panel password unless you change it.

3/27/2010 8:00 AM EST - Some users were reporting some issues with not being able to access some features (such as html editing) in webmail programs.  We found that IE 8 seemed to be the issue.  Enabling compatibility mode in IE8 seems to resolve that.  (In IE 8, go to Tools/Compatibility View Settings and add greenearthhost.com to the field of websites).   We have resolved script and other issues reported to us.  A few clients have reported addressbooks not being available, and we are working on that.

3/26/2010 11:00 PM EST - We are still making some changes in a number of system configurations to have things just the way they work best.  This takes some time and effort to find just the right combination.  We apologize for any slow response time you may experience while this is being done.

3/24/2010 11:00 AM EST - Until we have completed the new billing system and disabled the old one, customers may receive multiple billings.  We apologize for the inconvenience and are working towards getting the systems merged.

3/23/2010 11:30 PM EST - We've assisted with and completed all issues of script errors that have been identified by our staff and users, with the exception of WebEdit. That is still a work in progress.  The number one issue is still with clients not using the new username format for email.

3/23/2010/6:00 PM EST - Our new security procedures do now allow control panel/FTP passwords to contain the username or domain name for the account.  If you are having difficulty logging in with a previous password that meets this criteria, you will need to reset your password.  You can use the reset password option on the login page, or we can assist with resetting passwords if needed.

3/22/2010 7:00 PM EST - We're still helping clients with various issues such as older scripts not 'cooperating' with newer versions of MySQL, PHP or Perl.   The number issue is still with folks not using the new username format for email.

3/21/2010 4:00 PM EST - Number one issue has been with users not being able to login/receive mail.  Number one "fix" is a reminder that they need full email address for username.  See Here  Account owners need to notify their email users of the change!

3/21/2010 2:30 PM EST - Quota error is fixed.

3/21/2010 1:30 PM EST - Several issues we are currently addressing.  Users may see quota error message when trying to log into webmail or receiving mail.  We are working on this now.  Secondly, users may experience error message trying to access WebEdit program.  As a workaround for now, users can log into control panel and go to file manager/webroot and see file list.  Highlight page to edit, and then select Edit Html option on tool bar. Page can then be edited.  We'll continue to address WebEdit issue.

3/20/2010 9:00 PM EST -  All email syncing has been completed.  All old mail has been moved to new server and should be available in webmail or can be popped to your email client (see note under Email discussion).  We are still checking php scripts and database functions on the sites.  Tomorrow we will be working on final DNS changes.

3/20/2010 11:45 AM EST - We're working on email syncing, so your old mail may not yet be appearing in your new mail boxes.  When the process is completed, your old mail and various folders  should be in place.

3/20/2010 2:45 AM EST - Sites are moved and resolving to new servers!
We are working on troubleshooting various scripts and processes running, so you may see error messages on some sites.

Your continued patience is appreciated!

Please see important information you'll need to know about the new system.

Migration/Upgrade Schedule: Migration has been completed!  We are now checking various script functions on the servers.

Impact
: There was virtually no site downtime!  There were some issues with individual sites that we were able to resolve quickly.   You may  need to check various scripts to make sure they are functioning properly for you.  We will have new versions of PHP and MySQL on the new systems, and that may cause your current scripts to react differently.  We will be doing serverwide checks and making any changes we can for you, so give us a chance to make those individual changes.   If your script issue does not resolve after 2 days post migration, please let us know.

Changes:

Important POST UPGRADE Information for all clients

Most users who experience problems will experience them with email. There are a few key changes that you should make all users on your account aware of in order to avoid these common problems.

After the upgrade date, reboot your computers before connecting to your site.  It might also be necessary to turn off your modem and router and then reboot.  Some computer programs will try to access the old server even though we've programmed traffic to the new servers, and the reboot will help eliminate this problem.

Old Username New Username
janedoe janedoe@mydomain.com

After the upgrades, you will need to use the entire email address to download your email (janedoe@mydomain.com). Your email password will remain the same.  This means you will need to make this change in your email client (such as Outlook) AFTER the upgrade.

Here are the settings you need to configure in Outlook/other Email Client:

Mail Server Username: janedoe@mydomain.com
Incoming Mail Server: mail.mydomain.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.mydomain.com

On the outgoing server tab, check :server requires authentication and use
port 25. Also check the option to 'log onto incoming server before sending'
Go Here to see additional information on configuration email in Outlook, also see our tutorials here: http://GreenEarthHost.com/tutorials/demos.html

See more details on setting up NEW email here.  With webmail, you will now go to http://www.mydomain.com/webmail instead of http://www.mydomain.com/up:

Old Login Address For Webmail New Login Address For Webmail
http://mydomain.com/up http://mydomain.com/webmail

You will have several different webmail programs from which to choose.  Your existing mail files will be moved to the new servers, and you will be able to select the webmail program that works best for you, as there are different features in each.

Once you can reach your login page at:
http://mydomain.com/cpanel (using your own domain name)
Your will know that your website is resolving to the new server!
Then you should make the username login changes for your email.

If you can't seem to locate your email folders when looking at your webmail, here are some suggestions:
Roundcube:  At top right, Go to settings/folders/subscribe.   Click the subscribe box by the folder you want to see.  There is no ‘save’ button, but when you leave the screen, it is saved.  Click on the Email link (top right near settings) and you will then see the new folder (s) listed on the left under folders.

Horde: Check the list of folders on the left to see the folder with messages you want to view.  Click on the +sign by the Mail link to expand the list and see the folder list.

Squirrelmail:  Folders should appear on the left.

For all packages,  old sent mail on the previous server may appear under a folder named sent-mail (for old sent mail).

PASSWORDS:
In our recent client mailing, we have provided you with your existing passwords for your records. We will no longer be able to give you your password information over the phone or via email if you make password changes after the move, as we will not have access to that information.  However, you will be able to reset your passwords, or we can reset them for you.

MAILING LISTS:
Currently, we are using SmartList for our mailing list software. With the new servers, we will be using Mailman.  The administration of your lists will be different,  and we encourage you to take a look at some of the information at this linkAfter the migration, you should look at your list administrative options and add any new configuration options you may want.  One change you may want to make is under the 'modify' link for your mailing list in your new control panel.  There is an option to send password reminders monthly to your users.  This is a defaulted to "Yes" to meet new privacy guidelines for lists, but some users will find such messages confusing.  Go here to learn more about Can-Spam guidelines and regulations for messages sent to lists.

We will also have a new list option  available, PHPList.  This is a Newsletter list, and used for announcement only lists, not discussion lists. It will be an optional installation in your control panel under "Fantastico"

ACCESSING YOUR NEW CONTROL PANEL:

Once your domain name is properly resolving to the new servers, you will be logging into your control panel differently:

Old Control Panel Login New Control Panel Login
http://mydomain.com/menu http://mydomain.com/cpanel

Your username and password will be the same as they currently are.  Once you can access your control panel at the address above, you will know that your site is resolving properly to the new servers!

SUPPORT:

DOMAIN NAME DNS CHANGE:
If we manage your domain name registration, this does not apply to you as we will take care of this change for you.  If you manage your own domain name, please make sure the nameservers are pointing to ns.GreenEarthHost.com and ns2.GreenEarthHost.com AFTER the migration,or provide your registrar/domain name login information to us and we will make the change for you.  Go Here to check Whois records for your domain name.

OLD BILLING RECORDS:
Most of our old billing system will not be available after the upgrade.  Please note that historical billing records will be deleted after the upgrade, but any balances you owe will be carried forward to the new system. If you need your billing history information, please log into your control panel and click on the Billing History icon and print or save the information for your records.

IP ADDRESSES WILL CHANGE:
If you are currently using your account's IP address, the new system will not use dedicated IP addresses by default. If you purchase an SSL Certificate through Khimaira-GreenEarthHost, we will automatically assign a dedicated IP address (included in the payment of your SSL certificate).  Professional and Commerce packages include dedicated IP addresses.   This feature and expense is not necessary for 90% of websites today, but important for businesses with shopping carts and SSL certificates on their sites.   PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT USING THE OLD IP FOR ANY FTP OR OTHER CONNECTIONS (SUCH AS DREAMWEAVER, FRONTPAGE, ETC).  You need to use your full domain name instead of the old IP.

SERVER-WIDE SSL:
With the upgrades, we will no longer be able to provide server wide SSL, due to changes we need to make with security settings on our new server configurations.  We will assist you with purchasing and installing your own Secure Certificate if you need one.

PHP VERSION 5:
We are making PHP 5.x available as an option on the new servers through a special tool in your new control panel. By default, we'll continue to provide 4.x initially.

MySQL VERSION
We will be upgrading to MySQL version 5.

PGP & GPG MAIL:
The new servers will provide PGP Mail that is compatible with the current system. If you're using PGP Mail, please test it after the migration just to make sure that it's working for you. PGP Mail is somewhat touchy and might need attention during the initial set up.

FTP USERS:
If you have extra FTP users (if you utilize the FTP USERS Tool in your control panel) the login user names will change. These logins will be "username@mydomain.com", rather than just "username". This doesn't apply to the primary FTP logins, only to additional logins which you may have added.

NOTE: Also, if you are currently using your site's IP address in your saved FTP sessions, remember that you will need to change to the actual domain name for the account, as the old IP will not work.

COUNTERS:
If you are using the counters provided in the old control panels, you will need to add new counters that are available in your new control panel (See the section called Software and then the CGI-Center).  If you are using an offsite counter, you shouldn't need to make any changes.

HOSTING PACKAGE CHANGES:
Some of our packages will have new names, and most have increased space, bandwidth and many new features.  The smaller packages will have a slight increase in price (but doubled the space).  Existing customers will have the old pricing applied when their domains renew in 2010, but will still have the new space and features.  A brief overview of the new packages is available here.  More details will be provided soon.

MORE INFORMATION TO COME. Check back for more updates!

EMAIL CHANGES (CRITICAL):
The biggest change on the new system is with your email box user name.  Currently, you use only the name as specified to the left of the (@) symbol.  With the new system, you will need to use your full email address. So, if your address is janedoe@myowndomain.com, you are currently using just use "janedoe" for your user name.
Servers, control panels and billing system upgrades.  New features will also be available.

Please include your name; your domain name;  your telephone number; the specific problem (and any error messages you are receiving); what you have tried to do to resolve the problem; and any other details that might be helpful in researching your problem.

FIREWALLS :
Our new servers have the latest and most effective security measures in place. These measures are for your protection. However, it should be noted that if you attempt to log in to the server, control panel, or email multiple times (over 10 times) with the WRONG user name or password, you will be locked out of the server entirely. You can test to see if you're locked out by trying to browse to our website. If you get an error message or a page not found message, it's likely that you're locked out. If that should happen, go to http://whatismyip.com  and email or call us with your IP address and we will  unblock your computer.
Please have your account up to date BEFORE the upgrades so that there will be no downtime for your domain.

NEW BILLING SYSTEM:
With the upgrade, we will have a completely new billing system.  There will be new features available, and we'll have more information soon. We are still in the process of making configurations.

With the new billing system, your username will be your account email address, not your control panel username/password.  When we migrate sites, we will keep your username and password for your website login is as of the time the move is made.  We suggest that you have your control panel and client billing interface password the same to facilitate moving back and forth between the control panel and the client billing/history interface.  There may be a brief period of time when both the old system and new system generates a billing notice.  We apologize in advance for any such events, and we will work as quickly as possible to get things synced.

Take time to read this information to assure that you will be ready for a smooth transition!

We're excited and confident that the upgrades will  provide great improvements for our clients. We'll be updating you on the progress and issues that you will need to be aware of prior to the change.  We will also post any important messages here.
